Uyo’s Nest of Champions Singled Out for UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium christened “Nest of Champions” has been selected for the UEFA Champion League Trophy Tour, Nigerian Breweries PLC portfolio manager, Serah Agah confirmed.

Serah stated that the UEFA Champions League Tour will hold on 16th April, 2019 during a press conference held on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

She revealed the Tour was brought to Uyo because of the quality of sports infrastructure, warmth of the people and the need to reward passionate fans of the round leather game in the city.

According to her, the event will feature street party, a visit to the Government House, before a Novelty match at the Olympic sized stadium.

She said, “We want to deliver such an evening of glorious football to passionate football fans in Uyo and its environs,” and added that three time champions league winner, Carlos Puyol will make an appearance.

The match will feature two teams: Chairman’s team and team Shine Shine Bobo. Former Real Madrid and Spanish defender, Carlos Puyol will captain 10 players from Akwa United FC for the Chairman’s team while the Shine Shine Bobo team will be captained by former Super Eagles legend, Austin JJ Okocha, with other star players in the lineup.

The match is billed to kick off by 5pm, and will last for an hour, before the quarterfinal match between Manchester United and FC Barcelona, which will also be streamed live at the venue.

Elder Paul Bassey, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports was on ground to represent the government of Akwa Ibom and hammered on the resolve of Akwa Ibom people to host the tour.
