US Open: Andy Murray Suffers Second Round Exit

Former world number one Andy Murray has been booted out of the ongoing US Open tournament in New York following his second round defeat to Fernando Verdasco of Spain.

Murray, 31, was beaten in four sets (7-5 2-6 6-4 6-4) in 3 hours and 23 minutes by the 31st seed at Flushing Meadows.

The three-time Grand Slam champion was playing in his first major since the 2017 Wimbledon Open

On his defeat, the former British number one said: “It wasn’t the most comfortable I felt on a tennis court. I got through it and fought right to the end.”

Speaking further, Andy Murray said: “There were periods in the match where I played some really good stuff.”

“But there were some where I didn’t – especially in the first set – and that was costly for me.” The Scot concluded.
