UCL Review: Hazard, Dzeko Star In Stamford Bridge Thriller As United Record Slim Win

Chelsea and AS Roma served up one of the most entertaining matches in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in recent memory after both sides played a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Belgian star Eden Hazard and Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko scored two goals each for Chelsea and Roma respectively. Former Manchester City defender Alexander Kolarov also scored for the Italians while fellow defender David Luiz started the scoring on the night.

In the other match in Group C, Atletico Madrid have a lot of work to do to qualify after a disappointing goalless draw at Qarabag and they now trail leaders Chelsea and AS Roma by some margin.

Another English side in Manchester United edged closer to a last 16 place following a 1-0 win over 10-man Benfica in Portugal in Group A. Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute but the hosts couldn’t fight back as they finished the game with 10 men after defender Luisao was sent off for two yellow cards. In the other game in Group A, Basel secured a vital 2-0 win at CSKA Moscow.

Big spenders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) maintained their perfect record this season with a 4-0 win at Anderlecht in Group B courtesy goals from Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Angel Di Maria. German champions Bayern Munich needed goals from Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich and Mat Hummels to beat Celtic 3-0.

Lionel Messi scored his 100th goal in the UCL during his Barcelona side’s 3-1 Group D win over Olympiakos at home while last season’s finalists also won 2-1 at home to Sporting Lisbon with Mario Mandzukic getting the winner.
