UCL Review: De Gea Saves Manchester United As Shakthar Secure Slim Advantage

Manchester United had their Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea to thank for keeping them in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 1st leg tie against Sevilla at the Ramon Pizjuan Stadium in Seville on Wednesday night.

De Gea made several saves to keep the scores at 0-0 as Sevilla dominated proceedings from start to finish with his best save coming from tipping a Luis Muriel header over the bar.

The Spanish La Liga side could only have themselves to blame as their poor finishing and the superb goalkeeping from De Gea denied them from taking a lead into their other UCL clash.

Both sides meet again at Old Trafford for the 2nd leg in 20 days time to determine who goes through to the last eight.

In the other tie on Wednesday night, Ukrainian side Shakthar Donetsk came from one goal down to beat AS Roma of Italy 2-1 in their UCL round of 16 1st leg clash in Ukraine.

In-form Cengiz Under gave Roma the lead just before halftime but second half goals from Facundo Ferreyra and Fred (from a freekick) overturned the scoreline in favour of the home side with AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson denying Shakhtar further goals thereby keeping his team firmly in the tie.
