UCL: Chelsea Well Poised After Away Goal At Real Madrid

Chelsea secured an all important away goal in their Champions League semi-final first leg as they held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Christian Pulisic scored the all-important goal for the Blues which was cancelled out by a stunning strike from Karim Benzema.

Thomas Tuchel’s side should have taken the lead early on but Timo Werner contrived to shoot at the legs of ex-Chelsea keeper Thibault Courtois from point blank range.

The English side did go 1-0 up in the 14th-minute when Christian Pulisic took advantage of horrendous defending to round Courtois and fire home after Antonio Rudiger’s delicious delivery.

But 15 minutes later it was all-square as Karim Benzema struck a stunning effort past Edouard Mendy in the Blues’ goal.

The draw leaves Chelsea well poised to reach their third Champions Leg final when the second leg takes place at Stamford Bridge next week.
