U23 Olympics Eagles: Team Reportedly Left Stranded Without Food In Sudan

Nigeria’s U23 Olympic Eagles were reportedly left stranded in Sudan without money to buy food according to leading African football journalist Osasuo Obayiuwana.

The U23 national team were in Sudan for the first leg of an U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match which they lost 1-0 to their Sudanese counterparts at the Al Merriekh Stadium in Omdurman on Thursday.

However, they have allegedly not been able to eat since then and abandoned to starve because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made no provisions for their feeding according to Mr. Obayiuwana who relayed the information via his verified Twitter handle.

The U23 Olympic Eagles are expected back in the country today with the return leg fixed for the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday next week.

Nigeria are defending champions and won the second edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Senegal in December 2015, beating Algeria in the final, and both teams then represented Africa at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where the Olympic Eagles won the bronze medals.

The third edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations will be staged by Egypt 8th – 22nd November this year.
