Tokyo 2020: Sports Ministry Unveils Camping Plans For Team Nigeria

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has unveiled its plan for Team Nigeria towards at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

According to the roadmap, the final stage of local camping will commence from 15 May to 23 July in Bayelsa, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt. Track and Field National Olympics Trials will hold from 17-19 June following which athletes will compete at the African Athletics Championship from 22-26 June 2021.

The last phase of the camping will be in Kisarazu, Japan from 3-23 July while the first batch of athletes will enter the Games Village from 8 August.

Nigeria will present about 80 athletes in 10 Sports at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics including in Wrestling, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Badminton, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Track and Field, Weightlifting, Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing.

According to the Sports Ministry, the country decided to narrow down her participation to sports where she has competitive advantage in winning medals.

Sports minister Sunday Dare has repeatedly maintained that Team Nigeria will improve on her performance at the last two Olympics, where the country won only two bronze medals in Football and Track and Field.
