Tokyo 2020: D’Tigress, D’Tigers Get Fixture Lists

Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team D’Tigress will open their 2020 Tokyo Olympics Group B campaign against the USA on Tuesday, 27 July according to the official fixture list released by the Federation of International Basketball Associations on Tuesday.

The reigning African champions who missed out on the Rio 2016 games will be presented another chance to prove a point against the team they narrowly lost to at the 2020 Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade.

Friday, 30th of August will see the Coach Otis Hughley tutored side file out against world number five France before their last game against hosts and world number ten Japan on Monday, 2 August.

Meanwhile, the men’s team D’Tigers face Australia in their Group B opener on 29 July at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo.

Africa’s top ranked men’s side who are currently on a 9 match unbeaten run in all competitions will also play winners of the Olympics Qualifying Tournaments from Serbia and Belgrade between the 29 June and 4 July.

The top two teams in each group and the two best losers will qualify for the quarter-finals.

They will be divided into Group D (best 4 teams) and Group E (remaining 4 teams). The quarter-finals pairings for the men will be decided on 1 August with draws for the women’s tournament taking place the following day.

Women’s quarterfinal action will take place on Wednesday, August, 4 with the semifinals and the Bronze Medal Game taking place on Friday, 6 August and Saturday, 7 August respectively.

The quarter-final games for the men’s draw will come up on the 3 August with the semifinals taking place two days later.

The men’s final will be played on Saturday, 7 August while the women’s final will be on Sunday, 8 August.
