Barcelona are three games away from finishing the Spanish La Liga season with an unblemished record after the Nou Camp giants showed immense character in a 2-2 El Clasico despite playing over half of the game with 10 men.

Luis Suarez gave Barcelona a 10th minute only for the advantage to be wiped out by a close range finish from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The home side were then dealt a huge blow when Sergi Roberto was sent off just before the halftime interval for a slap on Real Madrid leftback Marcelo.

The numerical disadvantage appeared to galvanise Barcelona after halftime and they were soon celebrating when Lionel Messi scored goal no. 551 for his team to edge the Blaugrana ahead for a second time before Gareth Bale produced a moment of brilliance later in the half as both sides settled for a point apiece.

The result meant Barcelona keep their unbeaten record with three league games left to play while Real Madrid were aided in the second place battle with city rivals Atletico Madrid
