Taekwondo: USA, Ghana, DR Congo Set for Nigeria International Open

The Technical Director, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Engineer Chika Chukwumerije has confirmed that eight countries have indicated interest to participate in the upcoming Nigeria Taekwondo International Open.

The Nigeria International Open, which is the first of its kind, is scheduled from February 8 to 10, 2019 at the Velodrome Package A, of the National Stadium, Abuja.

Chukwumerije said DR Congo, USA, Togo, Niger Republic, Cameroon, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria have officially registered for the open.

“So far, 55 athletes from Nigeria, USA, DR Congo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Cameroon have completed their online registration,” he told ACLSport.

“There are 53 pending offline registrations from Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Benin Republic, Mali, Tunisia.”

“Togo registered two athletes while the Niger Republic signals the intention by registering eight athletes for the 2019 Nigeria Taekwondo International Open,” he added.

Chukwumerije recalled that the Niger Republic won many laurels in the 1st Edition, including the Best Team Trophy.

He said the registration deadline was shifted to 29th January 2018 to allow athletes who have registered offline to complete their online registration on the World Taekwondo Registration Portal.
