Swiss giants in hot pursuit of Simy Nwankwo after flopping at Crotone

Simy Nwankwo has reportedly courted interest from Swiss side FC Basel as the striker looks forward to an exit from Serie B side Crotone in January.

According to reports from AOIFootball, the 26-year-old desires to get topflight football in the 2nd half of the season, bidding to make good his chances of returning to the Super Eagles team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Having been a member of the Eagles squad for the World Cup in July, Nwankwo dropped in Gernot Rohr’s pecking order of strikers at the national team, despite first-choice striker Odion Ighalo being injured, after his club side Crotone faced relegation from the Serie A.

Simy has failed to make the Super Eagles squad for their last four matches.

He has also had a hard time in front of goal for Crotone since the start of the season, managing meagre 3 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions – 10 of which he came on as a substitute.

However, with Basel and a couple of unnamed Belgian outfits reportedly interested in making a swoop for the Nigerian international, Nwankwo has the chance to promptly get his career back on track and possibly feature in the 2019 AFCON.
