SW19 Day 8 Recap (Men’s Singles): Del Potro To Face Nadal After Rounding Off Win Over Nishikori

Fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina will face world number one Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals at the ongoing Wimbledon Open tournament following his victory over Gilles Simon in their last 16 clash.

The 29-year-old Argentine star was leading two sets to one before play was suspended on Monday night.

He wrapped up the game by taking the fourth set to complete his 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 7-6 (7-5) victory over his French opponent thus booking his place in the last eight for the first time since the 2013 edition.

Del Potro will play second seed Nadal on Wednesday after the Spaniard had beaten Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic on Monday to secure his place in the quarterfinals at SW19 for the first time since 2011.

In the other last eight ties, Serbian Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori of Japan will battle for a semifinal spot, while American John Isner face Milos Raonic of Canada.

Top seed Roger Federer will also play Kevin Anderson of South Africa in his quest to win a 9th Wimbledon Open title.
