Super Falcons To Take On U-16 Boys Team In Abidjan

The Super Falcons will take on the U-16 boys team of ASEC Mimosas in a tune-up match on Friday in Abidjan the capital city of Ivory Coast ahead of the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations.

The Falcons are on the last phase of their training camp at the ASEC Mimosas FC academy, Sol Beni, and head coach Thomas Dennerby had earmarked a couple of friendlies to help the team perfect tactics and strategy as they prepare to successfully defend their trophy.

It would be the second preparatory match for the Falcons after they played and lost 3-2 to another U-16 boys team Dominion Hotspur at the Atlantic Hall pitch, Epe Lagos.

Dennerby had told busybuddiesng.com that playing against boys was good for the Falcons because “they are faster” even as their 2018 AWCON Group B opponents have been playing more established opponents.

South Africa who recently announced their final squad for the tournament will play the Black Queens of Ghana in a friendly on 11 November while Zambia have also faced the Ghanaians in a friendly match last week. The make-up of Group B has been altered following the decision of CAF to readmit two-time continental champions Equatorial Guinea to the tournament in place of Kenya.

The Falcons will depart for Ghana on 14 November – four days before their Group B opening encounter against Bayana Bayana of South Africa at the 15,000 capacity Cape Coast stadium. They will also tackle the Shepolopolo of Zambia and Equatorial Guinea in the group stages as they bid to win a record-extending ninth championship at the 11th AWCON.
