Sports Ministry Mourns Demise Of NWF President Yahaya Muhammed

Nigeria’s Ministry of Youth Sports has condoled with the family of the late President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation Yahaya Muhammed.

Muhammed died on Saturday at the Amimu Kano Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

The minister of Youth and Sports Sunday Dare expressed sadness over Muhammed’s demise in a statement signed by his Media Aide.

“The minister noted that the sterling leadership provided for the federation by Muhammed in his lifetime would be greatly missed by the wrestling federation and the sporting industry in Nigeria at large,” the media statement read.

Nigeria won its highest number of medals in weightlifting under the leadership of Muhammed as Team Nigeria garnered 16 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze medals at the 2019 African Games.

Mr Muhammad was also the special assistant to Governor Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa State on Assembly matters until his demise.
