Special Eagles Ready To Return Home

The Amputee Eagles team to the recently concluded Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico is expected to arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International aboard a South Africa Airline flight at 7.50 pm today.

Two players from the team had arrived the country yesterday, while Bamgbopa Abayomi returned directly to his base in Poland from Mexico.

The Special Eagles return to the country on the back of an incredible story of determination and goodwill having had to battle incredible odds to make a first appearance at the World Cup after missing out on three previous editions due to lack of funds.

The team resorted to crowdfunding and were only able to make the World Cup a few hours from their opening game after interventions from Atiku Abubakar, the Nigeria Football Federation, the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Mikel Obi.

The team had a mixed experience at the tournament losing their first two group games to Brazil and Russia before recording a historic win against El Salvador in their final Group E match. They also lost their final classification game against the United States of America.
