Spanish La Liga Watch: Stalemate Serenades Madrid Derby As Barcelona Extend Lead

The highly anticipated Madrid Derby clash involving Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid failed to excite as both sides played out a goalless draw in what was the first game between the capital clubs at the new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Argentine forward Angel Correa wasted Atletico’s best chance of the game in the first half while star man Cristiano Ronaldo could have won it late for Real Madrid but he failed to find the net as his barren league run (1 goal in 8 appearances) continues.

The Madrid clubs are in deep trouble in the La Liga race as they are now 10 points behind leaders Barcelona after the Nou Camp giants thrashed Leganes 3-0 away from home courtesy goals from Luis Suarez (2) and Paulinho.

The win takes Barcelona 7 points clear of nearest challengers Valencia but the Mestalla outfit can cut that lead back to four points with a win at another Catalan outfit (Espanyol).
