Spanish La Liga Watch: Berizzo Returns To The Dugout As Sevilla’s Top Four Bid Falters Again

Sevilla’s Argentine manager, Eduardo Berizzo, returned to the dugout on Friday night after prostate cancer surgery but he was powerless to prevent his side from faltering again in their top four bid with a surprising goalless draw at home to Levante.

The disappointing result follows the 5-0 mauling they were handed by Spanish and European champions Real Madrid last week though one bright spot from the Levante game was the sight of club legend Jesus Navas moving ahead of Pablo Blanco to set a new club record for appearances (416).

With the draw, Sevilla (29 points) in 5th spot fail to really capitalise on 4th-placed Real Madrid’s inactivity in the league this weekend due to World Club Cup commitments. They are now two points adrift of the European champions.

Levante, on the other hand, move away from the relegation zone and are now on 17 points though they still maintain their 15th position on the Spanish La Liga table.
