Spanish La Liga Review: Ruben Castro Penalty Edges Betis Past Leganes In Five-Goal Thriller

All-time Real Betis forward Ruben Castro scored a late penalty on his return from a loan spell in China to hand his side the maximum points at stake in a five-goal thriller against visitors Leganes at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Cristian Tello’s 20th minute opening goal for the home side was doubled by veteran winger Joaquin with five first half minutes remaining.

Gerard Gumbau started the fightback for Leganes just before halftime before midfielder Javier Eraso equalised for the away side with 71 minutes on the clock but it was Real Betis who had the last say in a pulsating encounter with the aforementioned Castro scoring from the spot with seven minutes left to propel his team to a 3-2 win having come on as a substitute with 15 minutes remaining.

The victory takes Real Betis above their opponents and six places up the La Liga table as they move from 13th to 12th while Leganes drop one place from 12th to 13th though they are still significantly eight points clear of the drop zone.
