Sevilla continued their recent poor run following a 3-1 loss against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium on Wednesday night to further damage their top four hopes.
The opening goal from Inigo Martinez was cancelled out by Sevilla forward Wissem Ben Yedder just before the interval but second half goals from Igor Zubeldi and Carlos Vela, on the stroke of fulltime, handed the hosts the three points at stake.
Real Sociedad (23 points) move into the top eight as a result of the victory while Sevilla (29 points) stay in fifth position.
In the other league game on Wednesday night, Getafe move into the 7th place following a 2-0 win over bottom club Las Palmas.
Former Cardiff City defender Cala and Amath got the goals for the hosts in a game that played host to the miss of the season after Las Palmas forward Loic Remy missed an open goal in the second half with his team already two goals down.
