Alaves have climbed out of the relegation zone in the Spanish La Liga after they defeated rivals Malaga 1-0 at home in their Matchday 17 clash.
Munir El-Haddadi was the hero for the hosts as he netted on the hour mark to hand his side three crucial points and a third league victory in four games.
With the win, Alaves (15 points) move above Deportivo La Coruna into 17th position while Malaga (11 points) stay one place from bottom ahead of the short Christmas break.
In the other game played on Thursday night, Eibar defeated Girona 4-1 to leapfrog their opponents and move five places into the top 7.
Takashi Inui (2), Charles and Joan Jordan got the goals for the hosts while David Timor Copovi’s first half strike for Girona proved to be mere consolation for the visitors.
Girona (23 points) are now one point off Eibar (24 points) after dropping one place from 9th to 10th on the league table.
