Spanish Fans Boo Barcelona Star Over Catalan Support

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique faced the consequences of his actions once again after he was booed by Spanish fans at the team’s training session earlier today.

Pique, who has made over 90 caps for the Spanish national team, faced whistles and jeers from fans as the team prepare for their crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Albania in Alicante.

The Barcelona defender has been quite vocal about his support for Sunday’s Catalan independence referendum, which was deemed illegal by the Spanish authorities.

Fans yelled “Get out!” at the former Manchester United centre back and a World Cup winner with Spain in 2010.

Gerard Pique had always maintained his desire to retire after next summer’s World Cup in Russia but the recent unrest in Catalonia has prompted him into a rethink.

Speaking after Sunday’s game against Las Palms behind closed doors, Pique revealed that he is ready to fast forward his retirement before Russia 2018 if Spanish football authorities see his support for Catalan independence referendum as an issue.
