Southampton Sign Vestergaard From Gladbach

Premier League side Southampton have signed Danish centre back Jannik Vestergaard from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Vestergaard, 25, joins the Saints from the German Bundesliga outfit after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

He becomes the club’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of attacking midfielder Stuart Armstrong, forward Mohamed Elyounoussi and goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

The former Werder Bremen and 1899 Hoffenheim star didn’t feature for Denmark at the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia though he was part of the 23-man squad.

Denmark crashed out on penalties to Croatia in the first knockout stage.

On the club’s new acquisition, Southampton boss Mark Hughes disclosed that the club “had to fight off a lot of competition” to sign the player.
