Southampton Sack Manager Mauricio Pellegrino After Wretched League Form

Southampton have fired manager Mauricio Pellegrino after a wretched run of one league win in 17 Premier League games.

The Argentine tactician ends his 9-month stint after leading the Saints to 17th place with 28 points from 30 league matches.

He was appointed as the replacement for former manager Claude Puel in June.

His last game in charge of the team turned out to be the disappointing 3-0 loss at Newcastle United which left the team one place and one point above the relegation zone.

His dismissal was contained in a club statement which also said that they want to “appoint a new management team as soon as possible, with the search for a replacement already under way.”

Assistant manager Carlos Compagnucci and assistant first-team coach Xavier Tamarit have also followed Pellegrino out of the club.

He is the ninth manager to be dismissed in the Premier League this season.
