Simy Nwankwo Equals Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s Record

Simy Nwankwo continued his red-hot form in front of goal this season with his 17th goal in Serie A for Crotone in their Serie A clash against Udinese at the Stadio Ezio Scida.

Simy drew his side level from the spot in the second half after Stefano Okaka’s handball but Rodrigo De Paul added to his first half opener to condemn Crotone to yet another defeat.

Despite the disappointing loss, the lanky Simy, however, notched a personal landmark by becoming just the second Nigerian after Yakubu Aiyegbeni to score 17 league goals in a single season in Europe’s top five leagues since the year 2000.

Aiyegbeni scored 17 goals for Blackburn Rovers in the 2011/2012 Premier League season.

Simy can now go on to break that record with seven matches left to play in the Italian top-flight this campaign.

Despite the scoring prowess of Simy, Crotone remain rooted to the bottom of Serie A after 12 losses in their last 13 games and appear destined for a swift return to Serie B.
