Simbine, Ta Lou Clinch 100m Gold In Asaba As Ogunlewe Misses Out On Podium Finish

South African sprinter Akani Simbine and Jose Maria Ta Lou of Ivory Coast won gold medal in the men’s 100m and women’s respectively earlier on Thursday at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba.

Simbine clocked a time of 10.25s to win the 100m final ahead of Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse (10.33s and silver medal) and Simon Magakwe of South Africa (10.35s and bronze medal).

Three-time Nigerian champion Seye Ogunlewe missed out on the podium following a fifth-place finish.

In the women’s 100m final event, Jose Maria Ta Lou lived up to her tag as the overwhelming favourite as she clocked a time of 11.15s to win the race.

Ghana’s Janet Amponsah won silver with a time of 11.54s, while Nigerian sprinter Udo-Gabriel Joy clinched the bronze medal with 11.58s.
