Siasia Surprised By Decision To Leave Junior Ajayi Out Of Eagles World Cup Squad

Former Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia has expressed his surprise at the decision to leave Al Ahly forward Junior Ajayi out of the 30-man provisional list for this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr unveiled a 30-man provisional list for Russia 2018 on Monday and the aforementioned Ajayi was a notable absentee.

Former U23 star Junior Ajayi, 22, had high hopes about making the squad for Russia after receiving his first Super Eagles invitation and also made his debut in March’s friendlies with Poland and Serbia.

His former coach with the Dream Team (U23) was speaking about him in a chat with TheCable. In his words, he said: “Junior [Ajayi] has proven himself with the Olympic team and he is doing well in his club in Egypt. I think he should be given at least a chance to be part of that 30 man list.”

“Ajayi came in for just about one minute. He trained with them, that’s not the same. Training and playing is not the same thing. If you look at Victor Moses in training, you won’t play him.”

“I am telling you the truth. I am not saying that’s the same thing Ajayi did but they have to give him a chance.” Siasia concluded.
