Shambolic defending was the order of the match after Arsenal and Liverpool shared a thrilling six-goal encounter at the Emirates Stadium in a Matchday 19 clash in the Premier League.

Billed as a crucial game in the race for UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification, Liverpool, aided by some woeful Arsenal defending, took a 2-0 lead courtesy goals from Philippe Coutinho and in-form Mohamed Salah either side of halftime before the Gunners produced a monumental fightback.

Alexis Sanchez capitalised on an error from Liverpool right-back Joe Gomez to halve the deficit before another clanger from Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet gave the home side the equaliser following his failure to deal with Granit Xhaka’s shot.

Intricate play from Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil edged Arsenal ahead 3-2 via a strike from the latter but they could not hold on after Roberto Firmino’s shot somehow found its way past Petr Cech to earn the Reds a point that could have easily been more if not for their extravagance in front of the Arsenal goal especially in the first half.

The Arsenal goals came within a second half duration of 4 mins and 45 seconds.

The goal from Firmino ensures that Liverpool (35 points) stay in the top four ahead of Arsenal (34 points) in 5th position.
