Shakthar Retire No.33 Shirt For Club Legend Srna As He Leaves For Cagliari

The ex-Croatian international defender joined the club in 2003 and went on to become a key performer for them as he scored 49 goals in 536 appearances.

He won 26 trophies with Shakthar Donetsk including the UEFA Cup, 10 league titles, 7 Ukrainian Cups and 8 Super Cups.

He will move to Italian Serie A outfit Cagliari when his Shakthar Donetsk contract expires at the end of this month and the club has decided to retire his jersey number (33) forever.

On Srna, club president Rinat Akhmetov said: “Darijo Srna is a great Captain and a great player. And most importantly, Darijo is a fine person. Over 15 years, he has done a lot for Shakhtar. And today, I give Darijo a standing applause and say a great big thank-you to him! Thank you for every match, for every trophy won with Shakhtar, for the true loyalty to the Club.”

“Darijo has made with the Team a long and beautiful way, he’s become its heart, the symbol and the living legend of Shakhtar. We have won multiple titles together, and a great part in each of them should be credited to Darijo, his character, his leadership, his love for the fans.

“We’ve been together in moments of the major triumph and in the most difficult moments. We fought together and won together. And today I want to say that the name of Darijo Srna has become part of Shakhtar’s history forever.

“Darijo, our door and our hearts will always be open to you.

“Thank you, the Captain!” He concluded via a statement on the club’s official website.
