Sevilla Confirm Signing of West Ham’s Javier Hernandez

Sevilla have completed the signing of West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez for a fee of €7.75m, it has been confirmed.

The Mexican international striker has penned a three-year contract at the Andalusian club and has become their 12th arrival of the summer transfer window.

New Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has overseen a squad overhaul this summer, but was concerned over his lack of forward options, following the departures of Wissam Ben Yedder, Quincy Promes, and Luis Muriel to Monaco, Ajax and Atalanta respectively, while Andre Silva returned to Milan.

Another new arrival – Manus Dabbur from Red Bull Salzburg – has been linked with an exit despite never playing for the club, thus fuelling the need for Hernandez’s arrival.

“It’s a great opportunity. I’m very happy to be at this club,” Hernandez told reporters upon his arrival.

Hernandez was likely to find his first team opportunities limited at the London Stadium this season, following the summer arrival of Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 31-year-old has played in La Liga before, during the 2014-15 campaign for Real Madrid, as part of a season-long loan from Manchester United.
