Samuel Chukwueze Signs Bumper New Villarreal Contract

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has agreed a bumper new deal at Spanish club Villarreal CF till June of 2023.

The new and improved four-year contract sets Chukwueze’s release clause at €100m for the first two years and then €80m from the third year.

The new contract puts an end to speculation linking the 20-year-old with impending moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid with Villarreal moving swiftly to secure their prized asset.

His release clause has now been increased three times – from €25m, to €65m, and now to €100m – since he joined the first team.

Chukwueze has enjoyed a meteoric rise since he broke into Villarreal’s first team last season and was recently named in the 10-man shortlist for the 2019 Kopa Trophy which recognizes the best U21 player in the world.

He is the first Villarreal CF player to be put up for the prestigious award, organized by France Football magazine.

Last season, in his first year at the top flight, the Nigerian forward scored ten times and got four assists in 47 matches. He has scored two goals and has assisted twice in only eight games this season.

Chukwueze was also part of Nigeria’s bronze medal winning squad at the 2019 AFCON where he scored once in a man-of-the-match performance against South Africa in the quarterfinal.
