Home-based Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf has hailed midfielder Dayo Ojo following his man-of-the-match performance against Equatorial Guinea as Nigeria booked a quarter final ticket on Tuesday night at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.
Making a first start for the team in the tournament, the Sunshine Stars midfielder fired in a superb goal from outside the box in the 69th minute to help Nigeria beat the Guineans 3-1.
“Against Libya, he (Dayo Ojo) came in for Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, and he did very well in that role,” Salisu told a post-match press conference. “And he gave us more fighting spirit in the midfield and more ball distribution.
“He is a good passer of the ball-he can pass the ball to 40-50m as you can see.
“For this game (against Equatorial Guinea), we need (such) a player, and he is one of the good shooters in the team. For this game, we needed only players that can score from 30-40m because we knew it was going to be very difficult.
“I am happy for him because apart from scoring a goal, he did a marvelous job for the team.”
The former Enyimba coach also hinted that Dayo Ojo may start Nigeria’s next game following his impressive showing against Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday.
“We have confidence in all the players but eleven will start, maybe, you change three. But when you come and play at that level, maybe, you have a starting shirt for the next game,” he disclosed.
Nigeria will meet yet-to-be-decided runners-up in Group D in the quarter finals of the 2018 CHAN on 28 January.
