2018 World Cup hosts Russia have provided an injury update on star player Alan Dzagoev after the CSKA Moscow forward was forced off his side’s opening Group A match with Saudi Arabia.
Dzagoev clutched the back of his thigh while he was part of a Russian counterattack before he limped out of the game on 24 minutes.
According to the Russian football federation via Twitter, Dzagoev will undergo an MRI scan after suffering a muscle injury at the back of his thigh.
The translated tweet said: “Alan Dzagoev pre-damaged the muscles of the back of the thigh. The terms of treatment will be determined by the results of the upcoming MRI.
Russia fared well without Alan Dzagoev as they thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 courtesy goals from Yuri Gazinski, Denis Cheryshev (2), Artem Dzyuba and Aleksandr Golovin to get their campaign to a dream start.
