RUSSIA 2018: We’ll Play The Nigerian Way Against Croatia – Mikel Obi (Audio)

Captain Mikel John Obi has said the Super Eagles will play the Nigerian way when they open the 2018 World Cup campaign against Croatia in Kaliningrad on Saturday.

Eagles handler Gernot Rohr tried out several formations during an unimpressive build-up to the tournament which saw the team lose 3 out of 5 friendly matches, with only a solitary win in the process.

“I think all the games were friendly games,” the Tianjin Teda of China star said. “Obviously, when you’ve qualified for a major tournament like this – difficult tournament like this – we want to try something new. We want to try different things leading to the tournament.

“We don’t just want to base on playing on one system or playing same players all the time. But we wanted to have something different that we can go into the tournament with.

“Every country have different formation or different players. I think that is what we tried. It’s a good time to try new players, new formations, and we did that.

“But we know how we play, we know what we can give, and now is the tournament. We have to focus more on the tournament.

“We want to be Nigeria; we want to play our way, and obviously, we can do that on Saturday. So, I think now is the business time. We have to switch back to our way.”
