RUGBY: Rugby Africa Cancels 2019 Silver Cup Scheduled For Nigeria

Rugby Africa through its President, Khaled Babbou, have sent out notifications to Unions on the decision of the Rugby Africa Executive Committee to indefinitely postpone this year’s Silver Cup which was scheduled to hold at the Lagos Polo Club, Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria between 8th June – 14th June.

Nigeria was seeded in Pool A of the Silver Cup alongside Ghana, Madagascar, and Botswana whilst Pool B consisted of Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mauritius, and Rwanda.

The tournament’s cancellation became imminent due to Kwese Sports, who are Rugby Africa’s leading partner, prematurely terminating sponsorship contract leaving Rugby Africa without adequate funding for the 2019 season.

Nigeria won the hosting rights to host the 2019 Silver Cup earlier in the year following improved Union activities in Nigeria.
