Roma Fan Sentenced To Jail

Preston Crown Court have sentenced Roma fan Simone Mastrelli to three-and-a-half-years in prison after he pled guilty to the assault of Sean Cox – a Liverpool fan- outside of Anfield in April 2018.

Mastrelli pled guilty to unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Mr Cox at Preston Crown Court on Thursday morning.

Mastrelli, a Rome resident, was extradited last month after being arrested on an European Arrest Warrant in Italy in connection with the assault on Sean Cox from Co Meath, Ireland.

Mr Cox suffered serious head injuries in the attack that occurred prior to Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Roma, which ended in a 5-2 win for the Reds.
