Rohr Praises Eagles Fighting Spirit In Iceland Win

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has praised the fighting spirit his players showed in their 2-0 win over Iceland in a Group D clash played at the Volgograd Arena in Volgograd on Friday evening.

Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa was the matchwinner as he netted two second half goals to help the team to a first win at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The former Bayern Munich defender spoke about the win in his post-match press conference.

In his words, the former Niger Republic and Gabon coach said: “What I like in my young team is humility, solidarity and fighting spirit.”

“I thought before this World Cup we were here to learn. I think this team will be ready in 2022 and this World Cup is coming early, but we have a good chance to win against Argentina.” He added.

The Super Eagles have now leapfrogged both Argentina and Iceland into second place in Group D ahead of the final set of group matches.

Nigeria will face old nemesis Argentina on Tuesday, while today’s opponents Iceland take on group leaders Croatia.
