Rohr: I Am Proud Of My Team (Audio)

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has stated that he is proud of his team despite Tuesday’s disappointing loss to Argentina which led to their elimination from the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Rohr and his players knew a draw against the two-time Champions will be enough to take them into the next round and they were within minutes of achieving just that until Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo struck an 86th minute winner to help his side qualify for the round of 16 via a 2-1 win at the expense of the West Africans.

Lionel Messi’s 14th minute opener had been cancelled out by a Victor Moses penalty in the opening minutes of the second half before Rojo’s late show at the Saint Petersburg Stadium in St. Petersburg dumped the Super Eagles of Nigeria out of the tournament.

When asked about how he felt about going close to securing a knockout stage spot only to be disappointed in the final moments of the game, Rohr said: “I think disappointment because my team gave the best. They made a very good second half and missing a few minutes to be qualified.”

“I am proud of my team because they played well in the second half.” He added.
