Rodriguez Granted Extension Over Racial Abuse Charge

West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez has been given a three-week extension by the English Football Association (FA) to respond to a charge of allegedly racially abusing Brighton defender Gaetan Bong.

The English international player was initially granted a deadline of February 16 before it was extended to March 9 on the request of the former Southampton star.

Cameroon international Bong clashed with Rodriguez during West Brom’s 2-0 win at The Hawthorns on January 13.

Rodriguez appeared to pinch his nose afterwards prompting Bong to report to the centre referee.

Jay Rodriguez is adamant that he didn’t do anything wrong and is in “disbelief at the situation”

He has been backed by his West Brom side who say they will “fully support” their player.
