Red-hot Onuachu Lifts Genk Top Of Jupiler League

Paul Onuachu delivered yet another reminder of his goalscoring prowess with a two-goal haul as Genk assumed temporary top dog status in the Belgian Jupiler League with a 5-1 evisceration of Cercle Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Saturday.

With the brace, the lanky Super Eagles striker took his tally for the season to twelve goals in fourteen league appearances.

Onuachu put Genk ahead in the 9th minute and completed his brace five minutes before half time, either side of goals from Junya Ito and Bryan Heynen as the visitors went into the interval four goals up.

Dino Hotic pulled one back for the hosts after the break but Theo Bongonda added a fifth for Genk to reflect the visitors’ dominance in the encounter.

As has become customary in recent matches, Onuachu was subbed off for international teammate, Cyriel Dessers who played the final thirteen minutes of the encounter.

Genk move top of the league on 28 points, one more than Club Brugge who can reclaim top spot with victory at bottom side Royal Excel Mouscron in the late kickoff.
