Prudent Energy Handball Premier League: Abia Valiants Win Battle Of Relegation Threatened Teams

Second-from-bottom team Abia Valiant claimed their first win in the ongoing second phase of the Prudent Energy Handball League with a narrow 28-27 defeat of bottom side Owena Queens at the Rowe Park Sports Center on Monday.

The Umuahia based team now has two victories in the league having claimed their previous win in the first phase which held in Abuja earlier in the year.

In other  Matchday 10 results in the women’s league, home team Seasider Babes gave their fans plenty to cheer about with a  27-24 defeat of Kada Queens in a match watched by Minister of Sports Sunday Dare who was also on hand to see Plateau Peacocks beat Imo Grasshoppers 26-23.

Edo Dynamos’ 24-27 loss to Safety Babes meant that they missed a chance to leapfrog the league leaders who have now extended their lead on top of the log, while Defender Babes defeated Desert Queens 33-25.

In the men’s category, third-placed Niger United beat Prison Key Boys 38-34, Sokoto Rima dispatched Owena Kings 35-30 in match witnessed by the Sports Minister.
Kano Pillars retained their position on top of the log with a 34-30 defeat of Kada Stars 34-30, while Plateau Vipers saw off Safety Shooters 18-16.

De Defenders beat Borno Spiders 32-22 while COAS Shooters and home favourites Lagos Seasiders settled for a share of the spoils with a 29-29 stalemate.

Andrew Daniel of Plateau Vipers and Inegbedion Faith of Edo Dynamos were named the Most Valuable Players in the men and women’s categories respectively.
