Presidency To Investigate NFF Over World Cup Spending In Russia

The Presidency has directed the Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged spending of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Russia, according to a top official in the Sports Ministry.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were eliminated from the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia following a 2-1 loss to Argentina in Tuesday night.

The team’s exit from the tournament has preceded allegations of reckless spending against the NFF.

The top Ministry official while speaking with the Guardian on Thursday in Saint Petersburg revealed that the Presidency is unhappy with the situation and has directed the Sports Minister to launch an investigation into the alleged spending.

“The minister saw all these things coming even before we came to Russia. That was why he instructed the NFF to be mindful of the number of people they brought to Russia. Now the Presidency is not happy with the stories coming from here in Russia and the minister has been directed to carry out a thorough investigation into the alleged spending by the NFF in Russia.” the Sports Ministry official said.
