Premier League Review (Wednesday): Sterling Stunner Takes City Eight Points Clear; Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton And Liverpool Secure Important Wins

In-form England international forward, Raheem Sterling, was the hero for Manchester City again after his last gasp strike stunned Southampton to take the Citizens eight points clear at the top of the table.

Sterling scored a curler deep into injury time to give his team a 2-1 win over stubborn Southampton after Saints midfielder Oriol Romeu had cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opener.

He has now scored late winning goals (84th minute or more) on four occasions in all competitions.

London clubs (Arsenal and Chelsea) and their Merseyside counterparts (Liverpool and Everton) secured respective wins in their matchweek 14 games on Wednesday night.

Arsenal thrashed Huddersfield Town 5-0 courtesy goals from substitute Olivier Giroud (2), Alexandre Lacazette, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to consolidate 4th spot while Chelsea also stay in 3rd position with a slim 1-0 win over Swansea City through an Antonio Rudiger header.

Liverpool stay within two points of Arsenal and three points off Chelsea after a convincing 3-0 win over their hosts Stoke City through goals from Sadio Mane and substitute Mohamed Salah (2).

Their Merseyside rivals Everton also recorded a much needed win following the 4-0 beating they handed their former manager David Moyes and his West Ham United team.

England striker Wayne Rooney netted a hat-trick including a memorable goal from inside his own half to lift the Blues away from the relegation zone to 13th position on the table. Ashley Williams got the other goal for the Toffees.
