Premier League Review: Liverpool Pay The Penalty In Tottenham Draw As Kane Reaches Century Of Goals

Liverpool were denied a crucial win in the keenly contested race for top four and UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification after new January signing Virgil Van Dijk was penalised for a foul on Tottenham substitute Erik Lamela.

Harry Kane scored the resulting penalty to notch his 100th Premier League goal and also rescue a point for his side with a 2-2 draw on Sunday evening.

The England international striker had a penalty saved with the scores at 1-1 and he was left to rue that missed opportunity when Mohamed Salah struck a solo goal to put the Reds ahead again.

Kane however made it count when he was handed another opportunity from the spot in added time.

Salah had earlier pounced on Eric Dier’s error to put Liverpool ahead in the early minutes before that advantage was wiped out by a long range effort from substitute Victor Wanyama which kickstarted a whirlwind last ten minutes.

With the draw, Liverpool move to 51 points but stay third while Tottenham are two points further back in fifth spot.

In the other Premier League game played on Sunday, Serbian international Luka Milovojevic struck a second half penalty to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United.

The Magpies had earlier taken a first half lead through Senegalese midfielder Mohammed Diame before Milovojevic’s intervention following Ciaran Clark’s foul on Cristian Benteke.

With draw, Newcastle United stay in 16th spot but move one point above the relegation zone while Crystal Palace move one place from 15th to 14th and are three points clear in the race to survive the drop at the end of the season.
