Liverpool have moved into second spot on the Premier League table after they defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at home in their Matchday 29 clash on Saturday evening.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored either side of the halftime interval to hand Liverpool three crucial points against former Reds manager Rafael Benitez and his Newcastle United team in the race for Champions League football next season.
The win was enough to move Liverpool (60 points) ahead of both Tottenham Hotspur (58 points) and Manchester United (59 points).
Tottenham had earlier beaten Huddersfield Town 2-0 courtesy two goals from South Korean forward Son Heung-Min to move above Liverpool into third spot.
