Port Harcourt To Host Nigeria, DR Congo Friendly

The Rivers State capital of Port Harcourt will host the international friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and DR Congo on May 28.

The decision was reached after the Rivers State Government expressed its readiness to host the match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt following the meeting between Governor Nyesom Wike and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick.

While confirming the new development, Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyaye, revealed that the state government will make sure that the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium is ready for the International Friendly

He said: “Governor Wike has done well in terms of funding national sporting events. He hosted the African Wrestling Championship on behalf of the Federal Government. Now he is hosting the Super Eagles and Democratic Republic of Congo on behalf of the Federal Government. This is something that is worthy of commendation.”

While speaking, the NFF President also commended the Nyesom Wike-led government for agreeing to host the high profile international friendly match that will serve as part of preparation for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
