The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has revealed that its president Felton Kamambo had been invited for questioning by the police on allegations bordering on election bribery.

Pindula.co.zw, a Zimbabwean news outfit had reported that Kamambo had been arrested and reprimanded at the Harare Central Police Station and credited Zimbabwean journalist Hope Chizuzu as source of the story.

“Police have confirmed that they’re questioning Kamambo over the matter and he has since requested the presence of his lawyer.

But the Zifa front, who has been captured since day one by de facto President Phelimon Machana, has told police that he made payments to the councillors because he was refunding them money they had used coming for Congress.” Hope Chizuzu was reportedly quoted.

However, ZIFA has since dismissed reports that Kamambo was arrested on Tuesday.

“Mr Kamambo was invited to the Surbuban section at Harare Central Police station where a warned and cautioned statement was recorded on allegations of election bribery on a matter reported to the Commercial Crimes Unit of police by Hon Dr. Phillip Chiyangwa.

The ZIFA president was never detained or harrassed by the police and is actually at home with his family. While the matter is subjudice, ZIFA would like to assure the football community that all shall be well and justice shall prevail,” the media statement read.
