Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Plateau United and MFM FC of Lagos have both taken a huge step towards qualification for the next round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) after they posted impressive results in the first leg of their preliminary round tie.

Plateau United thrashed Eding Sport of Cameroon 3-0 courtesy Elijah Ogene in the 19th minute off a rebound from Tosin Omoyele’s penalty and two late goals from Sunday Ingbede and Joshua Obaje ahead of the second leg on February 21.

The winner will face Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the next round.

MFM also secured a very good result after a 1-1 draw against their hosts AS Real Bamako of Mali.

Akinyemi Nojeem gave the Lagos-based side a priceless away goal with quarter of an hour gone but the lead lasted for two minutes after Miakib Giscard produced a bullet header.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side thereafter held on to the result ahead of the second leg match scheduled for the Soccer Temple in Agege, Lagos on February 21.

The winner of the tie will face either AS Otoho of Congo or MC Alger of Algeria in the next stage.
