Plateau United Clinch First-Ever NPFL Title

Plateau United won their first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title after beating former champions, Rangers 2-0 at a packed Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

The Peace Boys finished the season with 66 points from 38 matches, 4 points clear of runners-up, MFM FC who were beaten 2-1 by El Kanemi Warriors, to extinguish their slim hopes of claiming the NPFL title on the final day of the season.

Emeka Umeh gave Plateau United the lead after 25 minutes when he slotted home from close range a cross from Kabiru Umar before Benjamin Turba put the icing on the cake a minute from time, firing home from inside the box in a one-sided match dominated by the home side.

The NPFL Champions were presented with a dummy cheque of N50m for their efforts.

Despite their defeat to El Kanemi Warriors, both MFM and Plateau United will represent Nigeria in next season’s lucrative CAF Champions League.
