Pinnick Confirms VAR Use For England, Nigeria Friendly

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has confirmed the use of the much publicised Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology for next month’s high profile pre-World Cup friendly between England and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The two teams will face each other in a warm-up game billed for the Wembley Stadium on June 2.

While confirming the new development via ThisDay, Pinnick said: “VAR will be used for our friendly against England.”

“The world is moving technologically and football should not be left behind.” he added.

In a related development, Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has also thrown his weight behind VAR.

According to the Franco-German tactician, VAR technology will improve the standard of officiating.

VAR is expected to make its debut at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia after it was tested at last year’s FIFA Confederation Cup.
