Paul Onuachu: Giant Striker Teams Up With Stephen Odey At Racing Genk

Super Eagles giant striker Paul Onuachu has teamed up with compatriot Stephen Odey at Racing Genk after Danish side FC Midtjylland accepted a fee that could rise to €7m from the Belgian club.

The 25-year old had been a prime target for Racing Genk all summer but differences in both clubs’ valuation of the forward made the deal protracted with FC Midtjylland initially demanding €12m.

Both sides have now reached an agreement which will see the Belgian champions pay an initial fee of €6m with an additional million euros to come in bonuses. FC Midtjylland have also inserted a sell-on clause in the deal.

The transfer fee involved represents the biggest sum received by a Danish club for a Nigerian player, surpassing the €3.3m fee Midtjylland received when they sold Femi Ajilore to FC Groningen in July 2008.

Onuachu, part of Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning side at the 2019 AFCON bagged 22 goals and 6 assists in 40 games for FC Midtjylland last season and has scored 74 goals in 181 matches for FC Midtjylland since he joined in 2012.

He has been capped six times by the Super Eagles and has one international goal.
